Planting Guide

Welcome to the world of cultivating the Gracilis Slender Weaver Bamboo! This planting guide is your essential companion to ensure the successful growth and flourishing beauty of this remarkable bamboo variety in your outdoor space.

1. Location Selection:
Choose a location that receives partial to full sunlight, providing the Gracilis Slender Weaver Bamboo with the light it needs to thrive. While it can tolerate a range of soil types, well-draining soil is preferred to prevent waterlogging.

2. Prepare the Soil:
If you are worried about the nutrients in your soil you can mix organic compost or well-rotted manure into the soil before planting. This enriches the soil with nutrients and improves its drainage properties.

3. Planting Depth:
Dig a hole the same size as the pot. Place the bamboo's root ball in the hole at the same level it was planted in its original container. Gently backfill the hole with soil, ensuring that the bamboo remains upright.

4. Water:
Water the bamboo thoroughly after planting to settle the soil and eliminate air pockets around the roots. Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the establishment period. As the bamboo matures, it will become more drought-tolerant.

5. Mulch:
Apply a layer of organic mulch around the base of the bamboo. This helps retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and suppress weed growth.

6. Maintain:
While the Gracilis Slender Weaver Bamboo is known for its slender form, occasional pruning can help maintain its shape and remove any dead or damaged canes. Prune during the late winter or early spring before new growth emerges.

7. Fertilise:
Feed your bamboo with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring. This provides the necessary nutrients for healthy growth.

NOTE - Consider a Root Barrier:
If you're concerned about your bamboo moving too close to a joint fence line, or for narrow spaces, installing a root barrier is a good solution. Insert a sturdy landscape root barrier along the side of the hole facing the fence (see our separate article or contact us for more information). This barrier will help guide the bamboo's roots lineal to form your hedge and prevent any potential interaction with the neighbours fence.

Happy gardening!
